Your hometown boys banded together in early 2019 after jamming together at Goodnight Charlie’s bluegrass jam. Their shared love for grinnin’ and pickin’ has been the fuel that keeps them playing and since launching in Houston they’ve played everything from the Urban Harvest Farmers’ Market to the Firehouse Saloon. Covering a broad range of genres from country and Americana, to Irish and folk, to bluegrass, they delight audiences with their upbeat tunes and witty repertoire.
Patrick B Ray was born in Abilene and raised in Odessa and Austin. He has played with several country, bluegrass, folk, and Americana groups in West Texas and California. Now based in Houston, he plays with the Space City Nomads and is launching his solo career while pursuing his MBA at Rice. Too weird for Odessa, and too country for Austin, he’s found his musical home in the gritty bustle of the Bayou City.
Phil Westhart grew up in the Houston area and joined his first fiddle group, the Wildcat Fiddlers, when he was just 10 years old. He has since played in a wide variety of styles including blues, Irish, country, bluegrass, cajun, and Texas style fiddling. Phil recently completed his first Irish album, To the Highlands (go ahead give it a click and a listen) and plays fiddle for the Space City Nomads.
Matt Lyons is from a family of classical musicians in Richardson, TX. But in 2014, he broke the mold and picked up the mandolin. Soon after, he helped found UT Austin’s bluegrass club. Matt’s other endeavors include various bluegrass and country outfits, including a solo project. Now based in Houston, Matt is pursuing his Doctor of Optometry while playing music with the Space City Nomads.
